5 DAYS TO GO. Forwards receiving treatment, no decision on Emanuel, new players still on the way!

Who needs Spain? Back here in sunny Southend a whole forward line is receiving treatment. For starters though Damien Scannell, who worried supporters by limping off on the half hour mark at Wycombe last Saturday, insists he will be fit for selection for the opening league fixture against the Posh.

Damian Scannell

"Look I'm fine, what are you all worrying about"

A lot of Shrimpers hopes, (maybe too many), are riding on Damien's young shoulders to being the answer to MarkyG having left the club. This after a number of promising displays in the pre-season friendlies that ended last weekend.

Scannell told the official site at: www.southendunited.premiumtv.co.uk

"I'm confident that I will be up and running again in time to play on Saturday. I've had a problem with my groin and I just felt it stiffen up again while I was out there so I decided it was best to just come off and stop it getting any worse. Being honest I probably rushed coming back and should have waited a couple of days. But I badly wanted to show the manager and the fans what I can do to try and get into the starting line-up for the match with Peterborough on Saturday.

While we applaud his enthusiasm was it the right call in the circumstances, we will have to see?

The former Eastleigh wideman also commented about the lack of numbers in the first team squad, quickly going back on message.

"People talk about the size of our squad and it's true that it's small, but it also has a lot of quality in it and I think we're going to surprise a few people with how well we're going to do, we have a good work ethic and the team spirit is great. We will all work hard and my own personal aim to get in the side and show that I can do a bit at this level. I think I've shown I can during pre-season, but there is definitely more to come."

Danien will continue to receive treatment this week where he will be joined by some striking chums.

James Walker is struggling with a thigh problem, that's a new one. While an injury scare for Lee Barnard, who has had a calf problem, is not. I may set up a seperate injury section for Barny alone.

He is still not fully fit and that, not suprisingly, concerns Blues boss Steve Tilson.

"I don't know my team yet for Saturday because I haven't a clue who is going to be fit, we will have to wait and see how James and Damian respond to treatment. Lee played an hour or so after not having trained for a couple of weeks and hopefully he will suffer no reaction."

I hope there's a good selection of beers in the Cricketers on Saturday. Fred, do you open up at 10?

Lewis Emanuel

Is Tilly about to give a big X to Lewis, leaving .......... to play at left back?

Oh yes, then there's the left back position. The Blues manager must also decide whether or not to offer Luton Town trailist Lewis Emanuel a permanent contract. The defender played the full 90 minutes at Adams Park and Tilly is close to making a decision on his future.

"We will have a think about Lewis and let him know quite soon," he confirmed. Er, by Saturday I hope Tills.

Added to all that Tilly is telling BBC Essex he's still interested in signing at least three new players.

That Crewe article is getting funnier by the minute, this is a less than a week before the big kick-off, we'll probably win 3-0.
