As the final play-off weekend approaches EEB concludes his day tripping season that saw Southend return to League Two and the moment he felt relegation was certain, with the help of some Magic Bus cider!
EEB has still been travelling, watching defeat after defeat, drowning his sorrows as usual, watching our sad decline back into League Two. With the final away game coming up, let's play catch-up.
24 hours after the sun of South Africa our hero was off to the big freeze in West Yorkshire. Luckily the beer cheered him up, even if the result and Virgin tried their best to do the opposite!
This was the one. Hitting Exeter by Ten, breakfast, then an incredible pub crawl through the town. Never turns out as you planned, but a good day all the same, if you take out the game!
EEB was looking forward to a fine day of drinking around Greenwich, he had to put up with another away defeat and less than friendly comments from Addicks fans for things he didn't even say!
Poor EEB, another miserable trip to Huish Park, and he couldn't even have a pint!
With all that's been going on you could forget the heroric methods Shrimpers will take to see their heroes in action, or EEB is just plain daft!
Day Tripper Special: Had enough of EEB's tales of trains and pubs? Here's a Yorkshire exiled Shrimper talking about his day involving er, trains and pubs. Let's face it, we all need a decent pint at the moment.
EEB was determined to find Stockport's award winning pub and enjoy the delights of drinking down Castle Street. He was to be disappointed on both counts, but saw the team return to winning ways.
The return of one of EEB's favourite away games; the closest to where he's exiled and his favourite beer. All ready for a great evening then. Sadly, the wife, the traffic, and the referee, decided to conspire against him!
EEB was determined to remain sensible on this trip as he had an important family function in the evening, but that was before he got some extra cash and re-discovered a rather tasty malt.
Day Tripper Special: Those of us who got past the rabid police dogs found ourselves sharing the 22.08 from Prittlewell last Friday with the odd Borient fan, who, as you can imagine, were not happy chappies.
Bank holiday weekend, the sun was shining, the beer was good, the malts were even better, what could go wrong? Enter referee Russell and a dodgy radiator!
One final look back to the mid-week game at Adams Park which saw another draw for the Blues and a surprising amount of lager drunk by EEB.
Oh those last minute penalties can put a damper on the day but not as much as a dangerous looking drunk sharing his pint with EEB, and not in a good way!
The annual trip to deepest Gloucestershire seemed to be on hold this season as the Robins sunk into League Two. Should have guessed that the Carling Cup draw would give the chance to return in the first of this season's Day Trippers.
Day Tripper's Day Trip: The final nostalgia fix for the week is our favourite away day. A March trip to the Welsh borders found EEB enjoying the beer more than the game, but that's not a first, he even had a very large bottle of Perry, just for research of course!
Even the home crowd and both sets of management could only stand back and admire the Shrimper faithful who dressed in many fine outfits while full of song on yet another last away game of the season day out.
The Great Oakley Brewery's Gobble that is, and a very nice pint it is too. The sun was out, the beer was good, the Blues hit the net three times away from home, the day could have been a lot worse.
What more can you expect for just over a tenner return as EEB reports on his trip to West Yorkshire, a first sighting of East Midlands Parkway, and deciding on what beer to drink in two pubs built inside a rail station.
It's over a week now so EEB can bring himself to write about an away trip too far as his three out of the bottom four in a week March tour 09 comes to a bitter end on St. Patrick's Day where he doesn't discover his inner Orish!
The weekend trip to the Welsh borders found EEB enjoying the beer more than the game, but that's not a first, he even had a very large bottle of Perry, just for research of course!
The relegation threatened club tour started in West Sussex last Tuesday with a win for Blues and EEB alike. Shame about the cricket, the rain, the damp seats, the coffee and er, having to hide in the gents!
He's been to Morocco and back and now off to Brighton but we thought we'd better post this before it became the next Back In Time! EEB's memories of the win over Posh a fortnight ago.
With accusations of racist taunts now confirmed you could have been forgiven for forgetting there was an actual game played which Southend won! The Moose rising above events off the pitch to hit home his first senior goal for the club. EEB goes back a few days.
