Guys n Gals

I had a long conversation with Gerald Main of BBC Essex last week - the key points of which are as follows

"I know a lot about football"

"Not many people have complained"

"I ignore e-mails from one particular address"

"Who are the Shimpers Trust"

To cut a very long conversation /story short the decision on change of format seems to be down to him personally based on perceived listening figures. It's not really about cost, although clearly cost is an important element. He conceded that costs have not risen however he is looking to improve his listening figures on the Saturday afternoon slot and therefore what is spent on providing full match commentary may well not justify the number of people listening.

It's a fair point if you look solely at the economics - i.e. I wouldn't bother listening in if Colchester or Dagenham were on. So what they are trying to do is to appeal to a more broader audience EACH and every Saturday

Of course not being a commercial station the primary goal should be license paying public and community radio. His view however is that by opening up the show to cover more games they will appeal to a broader range of people in Essex each week. He's entitled to his opinion - I don't agree with it.

We have agreed to meet up 3-4 weeks into the season to see how it's going

Thanks for fighting the good fight on behalf of us all Paul, come on guys let's pile in, send those e-mails and at least slow down his PC, if not make him think again. Seconds out, round three.

(I read there's going to be a petition at the Peterborough game, great idea, lets keep this going on as many fronts as possible.)
