UPDATE: Macca leaves Charlton, set to sign for Swindon

Last updated : 22 July 2011 By exiledessexboy

Looks like we're be facing Macca again when we play the Roboins

After turning down League Two rivals Dagenham & Redbridge, after failing to agree personal terms, and being linked with Bradford City and third tier Walsall, it's looking like they've all been trumped by another basement club in Swindon Town, who can obviously afford to match his last contract at Chris Powell's Charlton Athletic, where he could have stayed until the summer of 2012, but has left the Valley by mutual consent.

Blimey Macca, starting to get a bit of history there, Robins fans beware if the pubs run dry!

The Beeb was confident the tough tacling midfielder was on his way up the M4 this morning; http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/14223493.stm, and local media is reporting a deal taking him to the County Ground has already been agreed.

The Swindon board has certainly backed new boss Paulo Di Canio, a real gamble but they've had success with former Premiership players before, Lou Macari, Glenn Hoddle and Steve MaMahon beoing just three examples, and though Macca didn't fancy dropping down a division the chance to work with Di Canio was too good, and he will become the former Hammer star's 12th signing of the summer!

Beware, Di Canio is after a tall striker, lucky Big Baz is injured!

McCormack, who spent five years on and off as a Shrimper, that includes two spells on loan inbetween a small Scottish tour of his own with Motherwell, warned about his exit from the Addicks on his Twitter account: "I came back in great shape but unfortunately wasn't given the chance. That's all I wanted. Never mind. I understand."

Maybe your were just not good enough Alan, but it does make you wonder with Macca, and before him former player-of-the-year Francis, both having failed to agree contracts with potential new clubs Simon turned down a move to Lee Bradbury's AFC Bournemouth recently, before Swindon coughed up, it makes you wonder what they were getting paid at Roots Hall, no wonder we nearly went bust!

We play the Robins away on Saturday, September 10th and host them in south-east Essex on Saturday, January 28th.
