Harrold: 'I know the fans don't like me there'
Ex-Shrimpers striker Matty Harrold, if that doesn't break the trade discription act, well, four goals in 59 games over two years, scored his second goal against his old club in 18 months back in February when his Shrewsbury side won 2-0 at Roots Hall.
The first, a header for Wycombe Wanderers when unmarked from a corner, blimey Spud Taylor took him on, no wonder he was in trouble at Bradford; the second, an absolute cracker from 25 yards that nearly broke the back of the net, something he even hinted at doing in his time at Southend!
This after he clearly handled the ball on the way to the Shrews first, and then, bless him, took out influential centre-back Bilel Mohsni who ended up limping off not to be seen again for over a month and not looking the same player since he's been back!
You're right Matty, we don't like you!
Not the right time to ask the Shrimpers to do their duty and do what his latest club want us to do, get a result at the Chairboys allowing the Shropshire boys to get through the automatic promotion back door as long as they defeat Oxford United.
Harrold told www.echo-news.co.uk: "We really need a favour from Southend and hopefully they can help us out. I know the fans don't like me there but I hope they can cheer the team on to get a result and you never know what could happen. The way it stands at the moment, Wycombe are strong favourites to go up but Southend are a hard team to play against. They will certainly be wanting to get a good result and I know Blues always take good support to their final away game of the season. We're all hoping that can spur them on and then we can also win our game against Oxford as well."
Harrold joined Shrewsbury in September, and grabbed nine goals, after playing a couple of years in Bucks where he scored 17 times in the league, yet he's still winging about the last time he faced them and Wanderers left Greenhous Meadow with a controversial point.
He explained: "We played them in March and drew 1-1 but their goal was nowhere near going over the line. It would be awful to lose out partly because of that but maybe there's another twist still to come."
With all the changes at Southend since Prince Harry left it's not surprising he can't get in touch with anyone!
Harrold concluded: "Things have changed there a lot in the last couple of years so I really only know Anthony Grant and Johnny Herd out of the players still at the club now. (And Johnny's now gone!) I don't have their numbers which is a shame because the players here were joking around and saying we would have a whip round for a win bonus if they could beat Wycombe for us."
We're do our best son, but not for you!
