Maher: Considering Gills options

Kevin Maher: Could become a Glover

After failing to agree terms on a new contract, less dosh, former Shrimpers captain and hard working midfielder Kevin Maher has come to the end of his two-year deal with League Two rivals Gillingham who continue to look to rebuild for the upcoming campaign.

However, the now 34-year-old ex-Captain Kev is on his way to Somerset to take up the offer of a pre-season trail with Yeovil Town.

At this stage of his career a return to the third tier would be a bonus, and it will be interesting if Maher gets any sort of offer.

Always remembered as the captain of a successful Shrimpers side when Tilly and Brush were at the height of their powers at Roots Hall, the pictures of Kevin hlding aloft the League One Championship trophy will live long in the memory. (As will that pass to set Freddy Eastwood on goal in an eventaul losing cause at home to Coventry City in October 2006).

In fact, joining T&B at Lincoln would be a old boys reunion, all those sideway passes to Laurent, but I doubt they could afford him.

Best of luck from all at S24.
