Barrett: 'N’Diaye is a strong imposing lad who I think could do well for Southend if he signs'
A report in last week's South London Press, who got the Harris story wrong but might be spot on with Crystal Palace's Alassane N’Diaye so they could have a stronger source at Selhurst Park, has Mad Dog's Notts. County closing in on the signing of our former skipper Adam Barrett.
Now 31, the legendary Shrimpers defender is probably up for League One footy, the Championship always seemed a tier too far, and rarely saw first team action as an Eagle being sent out on loan to Leyton Orient towards the end of last season.
However, ex-Captain Adam does believe Alassane N’Diaye, the Palace midfielder who is continuing to discuss personal terms on a season long loan at Roots Hall, would not be a bad signing to join Blues boss Paul sturrock in the hoped for promotion push during the next campaign.
Barrett told www.echo-news.co.uk: “Alassane is a strong imposing lad who I think could do well for Southend if he signs. I didn’t really see the best of him last season to be honest. I think he felt a little bit isolated when George Burley was in charge and he become quite frustrated playing as a holding midfielder, which didn’t really suit his game, before he fell out of favour. But the year before, under Paul Hart, I’ve been told he did really well. He scored a few important goals and if he gets his confidence back — which he should do by playing games — then I really do think he could do well for Southend because he’s a young lad who is desperate to play on a more regular basis.”
Seems a fair summary, especially as our Swindon correspondant can't even remember seeing him on the field, only six loan appearances at the County Ground last term and 5 of them as a sub, and Paul Hart, for all his faults, has a good record in managing kids and wouldn't have taken him to the Robins if he wasn't confident in his talent.
As ever, we wait and see, but all should be decided by Wednesday.
