Jewell: Vote of confidence

Paul Jewell: Popped into the Hall on Friday

Ferdy may be off to West Ham, wideboy Ryan Hall could be joining Nottingham Forest, Anthony Grant is believed to be; well, rumours about Snoop Dog seemed to have stopped over recent weeks, not sure why, and now Ipswich Town manager Paul Jewell was seen sitting in the Roots Hall stands Friday evening during the 1-0 defeat against Bradford City. (And we haven't even mention Far Fry at Posh.)

We were here last season of course when Jewell was as at the Bantams game then, shame we couldn't repeat the result, a 4-0 win, and we were told that he was visiting an old club he was managing, and I would have thought that was about it, or if there was any player he might be interested in it would be loanee keeper Luke Daniels who the Suffolk club's assistant boss Chris Hutchins has seen before while he was with parent club West Brom.

Success always brings speculation of course, so the recent bad spell of six games without a win, including four defeats on the bounce, should cool some of that.

Ryan certainly has showed he needs a few more tricks in the bag to escape severe man marking, and that's with fourth tier defenders, before a big whacking fee comes in for the former Crystal Palace youth.

Midfielder Kane has been very poor since his man-of-the-match performance against Dagenham & Redbridge, the last time the lads picked up a win bonus, but then he's not the only one.

Since Blues boss Paul Sturrock got us out the 2010 summer of discontent and built the platform for this campaign's amazing 17-match unbetean run that had us clear at the top for many weeks this is now his toughest time at the club yet, and there's no doubt new faces, he's said it himself, need to be brought in at the January transfer window.

How much is in the kitty of course only he and CEO Tara Brady knows, but a player or even two may have to be sacrificed, and Ferdy would look the best bet at the moment, there's nothing about Ryan on any Forest fans forum, if the squad building is to continue, and a striker to help out Liam and Bomber while Barry Corr remains injured is vital, still not sure Paul Benson is any answer there though, but I'm sure Luggy knows who he wants.

The next three games are absolutely vital, nine points could have been on the cards a couple of weeks ago, now five or six might be seen as getting the promotion push back on track, less and the murmurings will get louder and may make the fragile confidence of the team at the moment break to the extent this turns into a slump.

This is as tough a time for the supporters as it is for the manager and squad, Luggy's seen it all before of course, and a lucky goal, a bounce of the post from an opposition certain strike, or a return to the Hall magic and a stunning 20 yarder, and all could turn in a moment.

S24 wishes everyone connected with the club a very Happy Christmas and hope it continues on the field Boxing Day at the Rec leading in to a mega 2012, with New Years Eve style celebrations returning around the first week in May!
