The BAARROWBOY AND BANKER, just over the Bridge and a Fullers pub, a couple of ESB's should get you down to my next choice in a good mood.
Straight down Borough High Street and left into Stoney Street underneath the rail arches, next to Borough Market, and there's The WHEATSHEAF which offers Young's Beers and shows Sky Sports if you want to catch some of Arsenal v West Brom before taking the short walk to London Bridge. The most expensive of the three pubs but then again nothing is cheap around here.
Right next door is the Shrimpers favourite THE MARKET PORTER. A true free house it always has three or four guest ales on offer and a couple of very decent ciders if your in the mood. (Beers have been known to change up to nine times a day.) Best pub food in the area on offer upstairs but sadly the sausage place next to it has closed as preliminary work on the Thameslink rail project has begun. Also used in a Harry Potter movie apparently.
Summer Saturday's have been taken up helping the German sell Organic Ice cream at the Market and she's still at it, though showers and 19C's might cut down the sales! If your in the mood, and a double rhubarb and gooseberry is just the thing to go down with your pint of White Tornado, just go into the market entrance right in front of the pub, past the fruit guy and the organic cider place, next to the Ostrich burgers, and there it is. It's part of the Organic Juice Bar but I don't recommend any of that, though the hangover cure could prove useful. 1.50 a shot of ice cream or 2.50 the double. There is Chocolate!
