Essex under-18 derby ends all square

The young ColU side dominated the first half but could not find a goal, taking the lead only after the break when Tosin Olufemi scored, surprisingly after the home side had started to find their feet at last and see most of the ball, Anthony Furlonge hitting the crossbar.

However, the Southend under-18's soon struck twice within minutes of each other to grab back the advantage; first, Seedy Nije heading home, soon followed by Michael Hyland curling a magnificent 20-yarder around the Farmers keeper Shaun Phillips.

That seemed to be enough until entering the final stage of the match, when some poor defending by the lads from the south-east part of Essex was punished by Colchester's left-back Tom Bender who found the net from close in to make sure the visitors left with a point.
