Gareth Bale: At Princes Park to catch former youth teammate, no word he'll be at Great Wakering tonight
In the crowd of 778 that saw the Shrimpers beat Dartford 3-0 Monday evening in the club's opening pre-season schedule was Tottenham Hotspur and Wales star Gareth Bale.
He was there to catch his former youth team mate Jake Thompson on trail for Southend and who played the whole of the goalless first half against the Darts and will get some match time tonight to impress Blues boss Paul Sturrock enough that he's worth some sort of deal.
Early reports suggest he looked good on the ball but just didn't see much of it in a poor opening 45 minutes, all the goals came in the second half, so good luck this evening Jake.
No word yet on whether the Premiership star will make the journey down to great Wakering Rovers, kick-off 19.45 this time Gareth, to catch some action but if he does, hopefully he'll get the chance to see former Spurs youngster Rohan Ricketts, who has been all over Europe lately and looked short of fitness when at the training ground Saturday.
S24 will be and will post a report as soon as our correspondant can type it up.
