League One Preview: Top Half

Preview and Predictions for League One - Part1

Scenes like this are going to be repeated come May according to Matt of Crewe but not with the Goat, is it Furlong's turn to hold the trophy this time around?!!!

1st - Southend (Champions)

After relegation from the Championship in the 2006/07 season the Shrimpers took a while to readjust but the signing of former loan player Lee Barnard saw them gather momentum before coming a cropper against Doncaster in the play off semi final.
Odds - 20/1

2nd - Leeds (Also promoted)

Without any points deduction this season the Yorkshire based side will be firm favourites to win promotion this time round. The jury is still out on Gary McAllister's management reign at Elland Road and he will need to impress early doors.
Odds - 10/3 fav

3rd - Leicester (Play Offs)

Never easy after suffering relegation. Leicester have never featured in this league before and have lost a lot of their better players. May struggle in the early parts of the season but should recover and make the play offs.
Odds - 4/1

4th - Brighton (Play Offs)

Micky Adams return to the South Coast. Popular figure with the Brighton fans and has a squad which should be able to challenge at the top end of the table and the form of Glen Murray and Nicky Forster will be crucial to any promotion bid.
Odds - 20/1

5th - Huddersfield (Play Offs)

They will be backed by a passionate home crowd and they are expected to do well after a poor 2007/08 campaign. Brought in experience in the form of Gary Roberts who was on loan with us last season and Chris Lucketti.

Odds - 16/1

6th - Oldham (Play Offs)

Made some shrewd signings this summer and should improve on their 8th place finish last season. Should have enough in the tank to see them reach the end of season in a play off place.
Odds - 25/1

7th - Carlisle

Had an excellent season last time out but have lost Kieran Westwood and Joel Garner. Ben Williams has joined the Cumbrians and the return of Michael Bridges on loan should see them finish top half.
Odds - 16/1

8th - Colchester
Will struggle to adapt after relegation. They have moved to a new ground and the jury is out on the signing of Steve Gillespie from Cheltenham for 400k. Should improve as the season progresses.
Odds - 16/1

9th - MK Dons

Paul Ince led the Dons to the League Two title and Johnstones Paint Trophy last season. He has now departed to Blackburn but in Roberto Di Matteo they have a name who should lead them to a stable mid-table position after promotion.
Odds - 14/1

10th - Swindon

Swindon had a decent first season in League One and managed a respectable position despite off-field issues at the County ground. Under Maurice Malpas they should improve on the 13th position they achieved last season.
Odds - 33/1

11th - Peterborough

Darren Ferguson led the Posh to promotion last season and with Aaron McLean pledging his future to the London Road club they should be able to hold their own in this league and could be outsiders for a shot at the play offs.
Odds - 8/1

12th - Scunthorpe

Struggled in the Championship last season and on modest resources they could find themselves in trouble once again. They will need to rely on their home form to keep their heads above water.
Odds - 20/1

Well Matt thanks a lot, you probably have more faith than half our supporters! Are you sure that 4-1 win last season hasn't affected your thinking, we've lost a couple of players!

And where have you placed your own Crewe? And Borient, bottom four? When's Part 2, can't wait!
