Shrews supremo praises support: 'I thought it was the best match we've had at the Greenhous Meado

Shrewsbury Town's emblem

They still have the best home record in the league, unbeaten with ten wins and three draws, the latest over the Shrimpers last Saturday when the Shrews overcame the problem of playing the last hour with only ten men by grabbing all three points.

In fact, the sending-off of striker Marvin Mogan seemed to get the Shropshire side going, as well as he referee giving a very dodgy penalty decision, and certainly found the Essex boys lacking in ideas to respond.

The home faithful, as crowds tend to do, also felt they had suffered an injustice, and got behind their side with far greater noise than usual, becoming that legendary 'extra' man, in this case replacing the one that had seen red!

Shrewsbury Town Chairman Roland Wyncherley told www.shrewsburytown.com: "In the context of the whole occassion, I thought it was the best match we've had at the Greenhous Meadow since we moved in four and a half years ago. The support the team received was fantastic and played a significant part in helping us acheive an excellent result. I must pay tribute to the fans for thier backing as their excellent vocal support helped create an excellent atmosphere. The noise they made was terrific'

Shrimpers CEO Tara Brady, who has expressed disappointment at the attendances at Roots Hall, will be hoping that on Tuesday week we can recreate such a backing for Blues boss Paul Sturrock and his top of the table side when Di Canio's rampant Robins visit, hopefully though with elven players remaining on the pitch!

Wyncherely said: "I thought the red card shown to Marvin was very harsh but it only served to galvanise both the team and the supporters. It was the day the whole club came together and I was delighted with the end result which was richly deserved. Whilst we realised it was three points which has moved us closer to the top of the table, which is where we want to be, we have not won anything yet. We are fully focused on the rest of the season which we look forward to with genuine optimisim."
