West Ham allow striker to stay a Dagger

Last updated : 20 December 2011 By westfield shrimper / DSG

Hammers striker Cristian Montano has extended his loan stay at League Two strugglers Dagenham & Redbridge into a second month which will mean, baring injury or suspension, he will face the Shrimeprs again at Roots Hall on January 2nd.

Montano joined the bottom of the table club in November and has made three league appearances to date, scoring on his debut in the 3-2 home defeat to rivals Southend with a strike that loanee keeper Luke Daniels should really have kept out, though he made up for it with a spectacular double save at the end.

The 20-year-old's displays have, however, been limited by his parent club's refusal to allow him to compete in the FA Cup, meaning he will again miss the Daggers' third-round tie at home to Millwall on January 7.

Montano, who has also enjoyed loan stints at Notts County and Swindon already this season, is scheduled to remain at Victoria Road until and including the encounter against Hereford on January 14.

However, West Ham have a recall clause which can be activated at any time.

Still: Relieved

Still: 'We're looking like the team I know we are'

Dag & Red boss John Still believes his side are starting to recover from their "horrendous" run of injuries this season.

Having progressed into the third round of the FA Cup last week, the Daggers ended a nine-match losing streak in League Two at the weekend with a deserved 1-1 draw at promotion-chasing Burton.

It represents the first time since August that Still's side have avoided defeat in successive matches, although they remain rooted to the foot of the Football League.

Performances have not been up to scratch since Dagenham's relegation from League One last season, but a lengthy injury list has played a big part in the club's fortunes.

Mark Arber (hernia), Damien McCrory (ankle), Luke Howell (knee), Rob Edmans (broken leg) and Sam Williams (knee) remain on the treatment table, but the dire situation has certainly eased and Still can expect to see all but the latter rejoin his ranks sooner rather than later.

He said: "We've had absolutely horrendous injury problems this season, but we're getting players back now and we're looking like the team I know we are."

Not good enough still to get anything from us at Roots Hall though, we hope, then again Bradford only had three more points than D&R when we played them last Friday!
