Di Canio: Sent to the stands

Di Canio: 'I am a passionate man & if I want to wave my arms in the air nobody is going to stop me'

Oh Paolo, say what you will about him, and many do, the division would be a duller place without him.

And it looks as if he may well be banned from the touchline, which would be sad for the home faithful who would have less to shout at, for the next Shrimpers game against Swindon in their vital League Two clash at Roots Hall on Tuesday, January 31st; kick-off 19.45.

The Wiltshire side will first play Championship side Leicester away in the fourth round of the FA Cup next Saturday.

It seems Di Canio saw red, again, and was banished to the stands midway through the second half after reacting in fury to referee Keith Stroud's decision to deny his side a free-kick!

The Italian is now facing a second touchline ban of the season after being charged by the authorities for racing on to the pitch to celebrate a late Robins winner against Northampton on New Year's Eve.

Di Canio fumed:"I did not swear or say any bad words but the referee sent me off because he did not like my body language. I am a passionate man and if I want to wave my arms in the air nobody is going to stop me. If the FA charge me I will appeal because if I deserved to be sent off for that I will be in the stands every week. If they send me off 25 times it does not matter because I have a great team and we will still win the league."

They are only three points behind the top three now!

Swindon won the match thanks to Paul Benson's 76-minute header, while Matt Ritchie missed a penalty for the hosts after Macclesfield's Nat Brown was sent off for a foul on Aden Flint.
