Di Canio: Suspended for one game

'What me guv': Di Canio, suspended for one game

Tempremental Italian Paolo Di Canio was charged with "improper conduct" by the governing body following his 90-yard dash across the Sixfields pitch to celebrate the Robins' last-minute winner by former Shrimper Alan McCormack in their 2-1 victory at Northampton on New Year's Eve.

The former Hamster accepted the charge at an FA disciplinary hearing on Wednesday.

Di Canio will have to watch his side's League Two clash with Rotherham at the Don Valley Stadium this weekend from the stands and pay a £500 fine.

Bodin: Considers Gulls comeback

 Bodin: Considers Gulls comeback

In the meantime Swindon striker Billy Bodin would be happy to return to Torquay in January, but only if he is unable to force his way into the Swindon first team.

The teenage forward enjoyed a successful five-month loan stint in Devon with the Gulls before returning to his parent club last week.

And while Torquay manager Martin Ling is keen to bring the Wales Under-21 international back to Plainmoor, Bodin would first prefer to force his way back into Swindon boss Paolo Di Canio's thinking.

He told PA Sport: "I want to stay here and fight for my place but, if things don't end up going like that, then I would look at going back there. He (Di Canio) has just told me to come back, it's almost like a fresh start coming back seeing different players, different staff. He just said it was a fresh start so all I can do is work hard and see what happens."

And talking of Di Canio, again, (the spotlight always ends up on him!), the tempremental italian wants to bring another defender to the County Ground in January.

The Robins manager, who watched his side draw 1-1 at Barnet in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy southern section area final first leg on Tuesday, thinks he needs new recruits to bolster his side's three-pronged challenge this season.

Swindon are in the fourth round of the FA Cup and are pushing for promotion from League Two, leading the Italian to call for extra bodies as the campaign enters its final stretch.

He said:"We need a defender, we have only three. [Alan] McCormack may be out until the end of January. We need three or four players to guarantee we go up which I'm sure we can do. If we wait another six or seven games we can lose this and it can be tough for the new players because they have to adapt themselves. They have to understand my football as well. The players who I bring will have a good base already. If they join us they will have already played 18-20 games to prove they are ready. I'm not saying this because we drew 1-1, we have the quality to go through. I'm more worried for the league."

Though that hasn't stopped them chasing rivals Oxford United's top scorer James Constable, cheeky buggers!

Di Canio has remained interested in the striker, who scored twice against Swindon back in August, but the move has been turned down.

U's boss Chris Wilder told the Oxford Mail: "We have had an offer and it has been rejected. As I have said before, for any transfer to happen, all three parties have got to be in a agreement - the two clubs and the player. I'm not surprised, however, that other clubs are interested in our players."
