Zebroski: Bagged the opening goal

Zebroski: Bagged the Pirates opening goal

But first; another Di Canio rant!: http://news.bbc.co.uk

Shock of the Day

New Bristol Rovers manager Mark McGhee enjoyed a dream start after goals from Chris Zebroski and Eliot Richards clinched a shock 2-0 win at second-placed Cheltenham after goals from Chris Zebroski and Eliot Richards.

Rovers took a firm grip on the game with a two-goal burst in four minutes either side of the hour mark at Whaddon Road.

Zebroski opened the scoring when he latched onto a perfectly-weighted through ball from recently-arrived substitute Scott McGleish before firing an angled shot past Scott Brown.

The rangy striker also played a key role in the Pirates' second goal. When Brown was unable to hold his powerful 25-yard drive and home skipper Alan Bennett hesitated, Richards nipped in to tap home.

A poor opening 45 minutes produced little goalmouth action. Indeed, it took until the 44th minute for the game to burst into life, when Zebroski placed a firm header against the outside of a post following Gary Sawyer's left-wing cross.

Cheltenham substitutes Jeff Goulding and debutant Jermaine McGlashan both forced saves from Michael Poke before McGleish missed a golden chance to seal the points when he headed narrowly wide.

League Two's top three then all failed to win, as Crawley Town joined Southend United and Cheltenham Town on level points at the summit.

Plymouth Argyle moved out of the relegation zone after a last-gasp equaliser against Crawley as Northampton Town and Dagenham & Redbridge both lost.

Swindon Town won again, AFC Wimbledon edged a seven-goal thriller and Oxford United defender Michael Duberry had an unforgettable afternoon.

Leaders Southend suffered defeat on their travels after Jermaine Grandison's 82nd minute goal earned 10-man Shrewsbury Town a 2-1 success.

Crawley were agonisingly close to going back to the top of the table, but Maxime Blanchard's last minute goal salvaged a 1-1 draw at home for struggling Plymouth Argyle.

The point lifted Plymouth out of the bottom two, however, after Dagenham & Redbridge let an early lead slip to lose 4-1 away to Crewe Alexandra.

Northampton Town also threw away an early advantage to remain bottom of the standings after going down 2-1 at home to fellow strugglers Barnet.

Swindon Town are now just three points off the automatic promotion spots after Paul Benson's 76th minute goal grabbed a 1-0 home win over Macclesfield Town.

Michael Duberry scored a stoppage-time equaliser to pinch a 2-2 draw for Oxford United at home to Hereford United, after the defender's brace of own goals had put the visitors in front.

Jack Midson scored twice in the final 10 minutes as AFC Wimbledon came from 3-1 down to pip Gillingham 4-3 at Priestfield.

Mark Ellis and Danny Stevens scored the goals as Torquay United compounded Morecambe's poor home form with a 2-1 win at the Globe Arena.

Rotherham United continue to struggle for consistency after Marc Richards' 57th minute penalty gave Port Vale a 1-0 triumph at Don Valley Stadium.

Aldershot Town's troubles in front of goal show no sign of coming to an end after a frustrating 0-0 draw at home to Accrington Stanley.

Bradford City were left to rue conceding a late equaliser after Chris Palmer's 85th minute effort earned Burton Albion a 1-1 draw at Valley Parade.
