AFC Wimbledon: Will be hoping to catch the eye in 2011/12

AFC Wimbledon: Will start their first campaign in the football league live on Sky

The Dons will begin life as a Football League club with a home date against Bristol Rovers on Saturday, August 6th in front of the Sky Sports cameras, the game having a 12.45 kick-off.

So if your watching it in the Railway hopefully the ref wont add on too much stoppage time so you can make your way to Roots Hall in plenty of time for our first match against Hereford United.

AFC Wimbledon prevailed in the Blue Square Premier play-offs last season, beating Luton Town on penalties at the City of Manchester stadium, and will be hoping to making a strong start in their debut season in League Two.

They've had plenty of interest in their own players, AFC Bournemouth the latest with their manager and ex-Shrimper Lee Bradbury checking out Dons midfielder Steven Gregory, but recently signed our former loanee striker Jack Midson, who had been released by Oxford United, our former striker Charles Ademeno from Grimsby Town, and Brentford defender Chris Bush.

Meanwhile, the Gas support will be pleased the games on TV, as they probably need the comentators to tell them who is actually turning out in the famous blue and white squared shirts as new Pirates boss Paul Buckle has signed eight players already this summer, (yes Luggy, not all clubs are waiting for July), Northern Ireland defender Michael Smith the latest from Ballymena United.

Update: Buckle hits double figures; Striker Scott McGleish,  and rumoured Shrimpers target at one time pre-Bomber, and keeper Lance Cronin both joined the Pirates Wednesday.

Should be a interesting clash before our own heroes start 2011/12.

Sky will also be screening Southampton v Leeds in the Championship on the same Saturady (August 6th), k-o 17.20, hopefully a sighting of Lee Barnard, and show two Carling Cup ties live the following week; Tuesday, August 9th, Leeds United v Bradford City, k-o 19.45, then on Thursday, August 11th, Sheffield Wednesday v Blackpool, also 19.45.
