Austin: Scored an own goal
Two of the Shrimpers promotion rivals met at the Burton's Pirelli stadium Friday evening and it was the Lancashire lads who came out on top to move just one point behind the Brewers who sit seventh just in the play-off zone.
Stanley are certainly now hot on the heels of Albion after the visitors soaked up the early pressure before taking a 31st-minute lead through Kevin McIntyre's deflected 25-yard free-kick.
The hosts could have been back on level terms three minutes later but Ian Dunbavin produced a point-blank save to keep out a Justin Richards volley.
Burton piled on more pressure at the end of the first half but Dunbavin tipped over a Chris Palmer free-kick and Calvin Zola headed wide from close range.
Padraig Amond wasted an opportunity to put Stanley further ahead when he headed a Luke Joyce cross wide in the 52nd minute.
Stanley took a firm grip and Ross Atkins had to tip a Bryan Hughes shot round a post. The visitors doubled their lead in the 64th minute when Ryan Austin headed a Craig Lindfield corner in off the underside of his own crossbar.
Southend play Burton away on Saturday, March 3rd and Accrington at Roots Hall a weeek later on Saturday, March 10th, with the creepies on the Tuesday also at home, should be a fun week!
